You might wonder...

Jean P. Purcell

You might wonder about the person who started this blog...an Author Expert? Based on what?

Some people that will follow this blog already know of my other blogs - My News and Views, Author Support, and the blog I contribute to for my husband's book in progress

My personal memoir book that Highland Books, Ltd., in England, published in 1996 was to be my one book. I wrote it under a pen name, Jane Bullard. I found the process to be wrenching, not only because of my true story but also because writing a book, as you may already know, is hard, exacting, and sometimes obsessive work. It was distributed only in the United Kingdom for a long time.

That 1996 book led me into more writing and mentoring, as well. I learned I had a knack for seeing problems in manuscripts that I could help fix. By word of mouth, people contacted me one way or another. I offer the original of my book through the amazon.com link, and amazon.com requires the shipping fee. I chose standard shipping only as the buyer's option and wish it could be less. This is one of the many marketing lessons I have had to learn. Online selling through one or more successful book sellers is essential for an author.

About my view of profits: Like many writers, I do not have to support myself or others. I am able to focus on the fact that the price of any book can never equal what it means to the author. To the author, as you know, the book and all it means is valued beyond price. I want my book, its second edition, and all Opine Books to sell well because I believe in what they offer the reader. The cost to produce them is another matter. That requires a certain number of sales to recoup costs.

After I returned to the USA from 10 years living in Switzerland, I bought rights to my book and began selling it online and at conferences. The cover does not fit the usual U.S. book covers, yet I like it and I find there are readers that will choose to focus on what's inside. That, dear friends, I confess, breaks a prime rule in publishing: The cover is almost everything.

I'll leave my bio at this point, only to add that I have helped many writers with problems in their story organization (fiction) and nonfiction book outlines and process. LinkedIn members can read more on my profile. Just search for me there.
